Average position
Last updated [DATE]
Position is the order in which your brand is first named in one answer, among the brands you track. Position 1 means your brand was named before any tracked competitor. Average position is the mean across the answers that name you.
How to: Read your dashboard
Rule
- Only tracked brands are ranked. A brand you do not track does not take a position.
- Position is the order of first appearance in the answer text.
- The average is shown only when at least 3 answers name your brand, for the headline figure, per prompt and per day.
Example
Ostrova (fictional) is named in 3 answers to a prompt. It is named second in the first, first in the second and third in the third: positions 2, 1 and 3. Average position = (2 + 1 + 3) ÷ 3 = 2.0. If it were named in only 2 answers, no average would be shown.
Where you see it

Things to know
- A lower number is better: 1.0 is named first.
- Position says when you are named, not how you are described.
- It changes if you change your competitor list.
