Share of voice
Last updated [DATE]
Share of voice is your brand's mentions as a share of all mentions of the brands you track, yours and your current competitors. Each brand counts once per answer. It shows how much of the conversation is yours, not just whether you appear.
How to: Read your dashboard
Formula
Share of voice = your brand's mentions ÷ all mentions of tracked brands, with one mention per brand per answer.
Example
Across 40 ok answers, Brindlepath is named in 12, Tarnfield in 20 and Corvane in 4 (all fictional). That is 36 mentions in total.
- Share of voice for Brindlepath = 12 ÷ 36 = 33%.
- Visibility = 12 ÷ 40 = 30%.
Now add a fourth tracked brand, Pelliwick, named in 8 answers. Mentions rise to 44, and Brindlepath's share of voice falls to 12 ÷ 44, or 27%. Visibility stays at 30%.
Things to know
- Adding a competitor can lower your share without any change in the answers. A competitor you add is counted only in answers collected after you add it; one you remove drops out of every count, past ones included.
- The n under the box is mentions of tracked brands, not answers.
- Brands you do not track are not in the total.
