Listicles
Last updated [DATE]
A listicle is a cited page whose URL or title looks like a list: "best", "top 10", "alternatives", "vs" and similar. Aivting flags them with a rule, so you can see which list pages answers cite. The rule is versioned (listicle-v1).
How to: Find gaps and listicles
Rule
A page is flagged when its URL or title contains words such as best, top plus a number (top 10), alternatives, vs, compared, comparison, review or reviews, or "tools for". "Best practices" pages are excluded, and the host name is ignored ("bestbuy.com" is not a listicle).
Known limits
- "The best way to..." titles are flagged though they are not lists.
- List pages that use none of these words are missed.
Find list pages you are missing from
Turn on Listicles only and Gaps only together in the Sources panel. You see list pages that answers cite alongside competitors but never in an answer that names you.
Example
A fictional page, "Best invoicing tools for freelancers", is cited in 7 answers that name Tarnfield or Corvane and in none that name Brindlepath. It is flagged as both a listicle and a gap.
