    Gaps

    Last updated [DATE]

A gap is a domain or page that answers cite when they name a competitor, and that no answer naming your brand cites. It is not owned by a tracked brand. Gaps are where answers lean on a source without your brand in them. They are leads, not a verdict.

How to: Find gaps and listicles

    Rule

A domain or URL is a gap when all three hold:

    1. It is cited in at least one answer that names a competitor.
    2. It is cited in no answer that names you.
    3. It is not your site or a competitor's own site.

The rule is the same for domains and for single pages, and it follows your filters and active prompts. Gaps sort first, then by answers, then by times cited.

    Example

A fictional review page is cited in 6 answers. 4 name Tarnfield, 2 name nobody, none name Brindlepath. It is a gap. If a single answer that names Brindlepath cites it, it stops being a gap.

What a gap does not tell you

Aivting does not read the page. It shows where answers that cite a source never name you. Whether to pitch that site, improve your content or ignore it is your call, and appearing there does not guarantee an engine will name or cite you.
